The year is 1949. Crushed by the Allied Powers, occupied by General MacArthurโ€™s armies, Japan has been experiencing massive change. Agricultural reform is dissolving large estates and redistributing plots to tenant farmersโ€”terrible news, if youโ€™re landowners like the archconservative Tenge family. For patriarch Sakuemon, the chagrin of one of his sons coming home alive from a P.O.W. camp instead of having died for the Emperor is topped only by the revelation that another of his is consorting with โ€œthe reds.โ€ What solace does he have but his youngest Ayako, apple of his eye, at once daughter and granddaughter? Crime and Punishment (TEZUKA Osamu)
Crime and Punishment (TEZUKA Osamu)
Tezuka Osamu Tezuka Osamu

An adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's classic Crime and Punishment, reworked for younger readers. The setting is St. Petersburg in Czarist Russia, in the days just prior to the Russian Revolution. Rascalnikov is a child from a poor family. He murders an old lady who is a loan shark and flees with her valuables. Judge Polifili, who has been assigned to the case, immediately suspects Rascalnikov because he had recently submitted an essay in a magazine claiming that "the world is divided into those who are geniuses and those who are not. A genius may commit murder but is not guilty if it is for the good of the world." At first, Rascalnikov feels invincible and confident that he can elude the law, but the Judge Polifili obstinately persists in his investigation, and gradually Rascalnikov comes to feel cornered. In the meantime, Sonya, a prostitute, frantically tries to persuade Rascalnikov to turn himself in. All this takes place on the eve of the Russian Revolution. New Treasure Island
New Treasure Island
Tezuka, Osamu

The manga that made Tezuka famous. It is an action-adventure drama inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's book, about a boy named Pete who discovers a map to Treasure Island and embarks on a voyage to find it. The Western-style art and fast-paced storyline attracted much attention, and it became a best seller with 400,000 copies sold, laying the groundwork for the manga craze and its modern style. The original version of "New Treasure Island" was based on Tezuka Osamu's manuscript, but substantial modifications were made by Sasaki Shichima, who cut nearly 60 pages and also changed some of the lines. When publishing "The Complete Works of Tezuka Osamu," Tezuka Osamu remade it based on his memory to make it closer to his original. Was adapted into animation. (Source: MU)

Mako and Rumi and Chii
Tezuka Osamu Tezuka Osamu

This Manga deals with parenting, depicting the daily lives of mangaka Ohsamu Tetsuro, who strongly resembles Tezuka Osamu himself, and his family. The story begins with the birth of his first son. The son is named Makoto (nicknamed Mako) and grows to be a healthy 2 year-old, basking in the love of his orderly mother and careless father. The son is followed by two daughters named Rumiko (nicknamed Rumi) and Chiiko (nicknamed Chii). This story focuses on the increasing hustle and bustle inside the Ohsamu family. Also includes the 4-koma work "Sorry, Mama": The lively day-to-day family life of the young boy Yabo Onishi, his mother, and his father. Frequently, they are tempted by their desires (represented as their other selves, with devil horns and tails), and sometimes, against their better judgment, they may fall to them. But above all, they value family the most. --- **Volume 273 of the Osamu Tezuka Complete Works**

Black Jack is an "unregistered" doctor with a clouded, mysterious past. He works with his little assistant Pinoko (who has a massive crush on the doctor), dealing with medical cases not very well known, which can be strange, dangerous, or not known at all. But he is a genius, and can save almost any of his patients' lives (as long as they have the money for it), and is known to many around the world, especially to those of medicine and science. He's a man of science himself, and does not believe much until he has seen it, yet it is many times he is surprised by love and nature often overpowering the science he bases his life in. Astro Boy
Astro Boy
Tezuka Osamu Tezuka Osamu

It is the 21st century, and technology has progressed further than humanity itself could imagine. 2003, Tobio, the son of the head of the Ministry of Science, is killed in an accident. Mad from his grief, his father, Dr. Tenma, orders immediately the construction of a new, robot Tobio - a child of science. While initially delighted at seeing his son reborn, gradually Tenma grew fed up at the fact that this new Tobio could not age and grow. In this newfound frustration, he sold him off to a robot circus. There 'Tobio' was given the new name Atom (Astro Boy). Later, he would be taken in by Professor Ochanomizu, who serves as his guardian. Human-robot conflict occurs over and over again, and is a major driving force. Atom never gets appreciation for his work in stopping plots and conspiracies on the international and even intergalactic scale solely because he is a robot. The authorities doubt him because he is a robot. And as a robot, he has difficulty fully connecting with not just the humans around him (like his school friends), but even his robot family. Atom's serialization was unfinished, as the magazine it was in ceased publication. While there was content for Atom after this, the narrative never properly concluded. This is a collection of short stories that Tezuka wrote about transformation and its many forms. (from DMP): The world is nothing but a series of metamorphoses, from changing who you are internally to be a better person to the actual act of growing from a baby to an adult to the elderly. In the world of Osamu Tezuka, transformations show the darkness of humanity. One machine turns humanity's cast-offs into easily-hunted prey. A dancing farmer is turned into a put-upon vagrant only supported by his cat. A giant oaf turns out to be the sweetest and effeminate best friend you could hope for. One day a boy named Pete finds a map of "Treasure Island" that his deceased father left behind. He starts on a voyage to find it together with "Captain," who was a friend of his father. But his ship is attacked by pirates, led by Bowarl, and the two are caught. When a storm hits the pirate ship, the two are thrown into the sea and washed up on the shore of a solitary island in the southern ocean. To their surprise, this island is the one they have been looking forโ€ฆ The manga that made Tezuka famous. It is an action-adventure drama inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's book. This is the redone version for the Tezuka 400 Complete Works. When time came to collect NTI for the Complete Works, Tezuka had promised that *All* of his works would get collected, but the original version was presumed lost. Tezuka, wishing to keep on his promise, decided to redraw the entire manga from memory. The version restored characters previously cut (like Peter Pan).
